LAST DITCH EFFORT TO PRESERVE THIS MEASELY ASS BLOG

I have to admit it, I am not enthusiastic about writing for this site anymore. There are reasons for that and basically it boils down to a continual lack of comments or reader interaction. If people are not going to leave comments then what is the fucking point, you know? And I have tried all the wimpy ass suggestions to get more comments and in the end I just am not, for example, going to leave comments at ten or twenty other blogs in the hopes that half of those people may return a comment to mine. That is not what I want, and to be honest I even tried that and it did not even work anyway. And yet, at the end of the day,  still have some interest in the topics here, if for no one else then just for myself. But I have to be honest with myself, I am burned out with writing and posting tons of images and getting zilch in return. In fact a recent comment I got is what pushed me into this bleak miasma of bitter doubt. A commenter actually said he was amazed that a particular well worked out post had gotten no comments until his. years after I hd published the post! I felt he was right. There is more to all of this, but in a nutshell, as they say, that is it.

So what is my big master plan to get the blog a little active? I am going to convert it to being a mostly podcast only site. I have the hardware and software now to do a decent podcast, as well as a good free file hosting service over at The Internet Archives. I am playing a lot with audio these days on my own, with doing original songs and the like. It is where my head is at and a podcast would fit in to all of that, and I can belt a few out with ease actually. My earlier experiments with podcasting were fairly rough but I learned a lot and no need to let all that go to waste. And there is a type of enjoyment I get I from doing audio that demands less from readers (or listeners in this case). If I make a song I like or a podcast I like I can personally listen to it over and over later. I seldom, if ever, reread a blog post unless it is find and correct typos.

And with that I will end this post and hopefully the next time I return here it will be with a new podcast. Maybe by this weekend? Now, where's that fancy ass microphone I bought?

I have a rash on my ass right now you wouldn't believe.
That's not the most profound comment, but this is short notice, and I gotta get me some sleep. If you continue with this blog I'll try for something more profound.

I hear yeah I don't get many comments as well! Sometimes you put a lot into a post hoping to spark some conversation and nothing. Does make you wonder if it's worth it most days.

You are not alone in the quest for some reader interaction. Even with the stats right there, and proof folks are reading, they just dont seem to be saying anything. Its the internet, I thought everyone had something to say?

But, Id listen to the Uranium Podcast.

the other evening we spent over an hour and a half putting together a good (well we thought it was "good") and its daily total of views was less than 20... , very "disheartening"... Hang in there Good Sir... and if nothing else just occasionally post ... just whenever you feel like doing so... we do enjoy your movie reviews... though we have not heard of many of these films... if not for your posts ...I would have never known of these films... so Thank you good Sir...

Well I for one appreciate what you do here and am myself guilty of often reading and not commenting much of the time. Just the rare positive comment is what keeps me going as well as realizing that - though I may not get much conversation going - people are still visiting and reading. Just want to pass along a note of encouragement to you and a thanks for all the hard work you've put into this place regardless of what direction you eventually take things in. Also, whenever I get burnt out (which happens a few times a year) I just take a break for as long as I need to build up my enthusiasm again. Take care. ~ Justin

Thanks everyone. Dr. Theda you have been a long time follower and I do appreciate that. I may sort of shit in this direction: Podcasts (which are easy for em to do), losts of eye candy, like the gif things you also seem to like, posters and half nekked girl stuff and short posts, or a paragraph or two at the most. I just do not want to stop the blog. But it has taken a place closer to back burner than it used to have. Lets see where things go, and thanks for the words to all of you.

Hi, I just wanted to say hi and thank you for following my blog for such a long time. That means a lot to me. And I also wanted to ask you a favor, I'm promoting my own comic book, as you can see here:

http://artbyarion.blogspot.com/2015/06/un-american-chronicles-available-now-in.html

It would mean a lot to me if you help me spread the link around, and even better yet, if you post something about this on your blog.

Thanks!

Hi, Bill,

Unfortunately I totally understand your dissatisfaction with being able to get comments. I've also spent hours on what I thought were wonderful posts only to have them fall into the black hole of the internet.

But people are reading and your voice is unique. Maybe the podcast and keeping up with the tumblr are better ideas. And post shorter things here that are more "Hey look" than "This must be read!" Does no one read nowadays?

Please keep us posted as to where you're mostly "living" in the near future.

Cheers, Roger

Hi Bill, I hope you're doing well. I can completely relate to how you're feeling. The whole point of blogging is to comment on each other's blogs. I myself just posted about how important the blogging community is.

There are some posts that I don't get a lot of comments on, but ultimately I blog for myself, but you're right it's awesome to get feedback! I have basically only comment on blogs that comment on mine frequently b/c of this exact issue.

I don't know if we are following each other on twitter...that will soon be rectified. I get a lot of my news from twitter.

I will say that I think light colored blogs and backgrounds seem to get more feedback. I don't know why that is, but that would be one suggestion. I am constantly designing and redesigning my blog. I used to have a dark colored blog. When I lightened up the blog, more comments started...it's an interesting. It may be unrelated, but it's what happened for me.

I also started sharing people's links and linking to them in twitter. So if someone had a cool post I would share it on my site and then link to them on twitter so they knew that I shared their link. That has helped too.

msmariah/ Actually I do follow you. I have for a long time. You are in my little blogroll thingy in my sidebar. You know I thought about some of the stuff you mentioned. But, for example, I probably will not change my garish lurid blog appearance. I dunno, I personally dig it. But I am sure you may be on to something. And I know about the whole leave a comment/get a comment thing. That is cool too, but how many damned comments will I have to leave. I used to leave comments on other blogs trying to get a dialog going and they often did not even comment on my comment! It's really too much work. I share music at a site too. The only way to get a comment after I upload a piece of music is to bombard other users suddenly with comments like"hey, great mix!" or "love that bass line" and then hope you get basically the same sort of comment back from 10% of the people I stalked earlier. It seems phony and superficial. I used to have a couple guys comment here with "hey Bill, get article. Be sure to drop by my blog and leave a comment!" And they had like 40 comments already! Comment grubbers. Hate 'em. But thanks so much. I may be just losing the blog spirit little by little. I read it happens.

Roger/ I did a little research. Seems blogging was the thing back in 2004 or so. The glory days of the self promoting writer. That was the time I began blogging and things were different. People read on mobile devices now. And probably not horror movie blogs. They quickly and sample gather info from Twitter and Facebook and Reddit.

In the end I think we have to blog just because we feel like we want to. Podcast coming soon my man.

Arion/ while it is a bit tacky to ask a man contemplating blog suicide to promote your own material and not say squat about mine I figure what better place to do such a thing than my model tacky blog. And you are right, I have followed you a long time. I love a good comic book blog. Good luck man :)

BIll-- I totally understand. Here's what I typically do. I will comment on someone's blog for about a month or so and if I don't receive a comment back at some point, I just unfollow them. That way I'm only focusing on the right blogs.

I personally think your blog is really cool the way it is, but a light colored blog would still be cool and may attract more comments. I've also been doing SEO work recently. I don't think blogger does a lot to help us with SEO. I found this great post, which I've been working on. http://www.bloggertipstricks.com/on-page-seo-tips-blogspot.html
